Have friends of all ages. No matter where you are on the life spectrum it's good for you to have friends different from you. Compare the wisdom of your octogenarian grandfather to that of your three-year-old niece trying on one of her mother's Koi nursing uniforms. A more expansive worldview will keep you balanced and connected to others on even the most stressful day, and will certainly provide some good laughter along the way. Write a letter. Depending on your profession, people get hundreds to thousands of emails each day, but when was the last time you received a handwritten letter, or sent one to someone you love. Instead of firing up the computer and taking off your antimicrobial scrubs when you get home from work, get comfortable and sit down a write a letter. Have the heart of your younger self. More and more, data is suggesting that personality does not change much over a lifetime. Find a favorite picture from childhood and pin it on the refrigerator or the bathroom mirror. The image of you tap dancing in the second grade, or catching your first fish will put a smile on your face and remind you to take life less seriously. Enjoy something beautiful every day. You don't have to wait for your next vacation to appreciate the beauty in every day. Watch the sunset. Walk through a garden. Gaze at the fresh produce in your grocery store. By slowing down, you will realize how much beauty surrounds you 24 hours a day. Pay it forward. There are a million ways to give to others and you don't have to spend money to do so. Is reading your passion? You might want to consider volunteering at adult literacy organization. Love animals? Why not take your family pet to your grandmother's nursing home, or volunteer at your local Humane Society. With the Internet, there are ways to connect and give to men, women and children all around the world. With a small gift you can sponsor a micro loan to a rice seller in India, or a furniture maker in Vietnam. Rest. Most people don't get enough sleep, so make it a practice to get a power nap, or twenty minutes reading in your favorite chair whenever you can. You will feel invigorated and have the energy to carpe diem.
